In an emergency situation it is essential to be able to quickly and effectively communicate with those that will be directly affected. Notification must be given immediately and without delay. For this reason, most effective crisis management plans incorporate multiple crisis communication methods.

What Happens When Crisis Communication Has a Break Down?

When crisis communication breaks down, the results can be devastating to individuals, companies, and the general public. What can happen as a result of a crisis communication break down?

* People can be harmed that would have otherwise been able to escape the affects of the crisis.
* Company or organization reputations can be damaged beyond repair.
* Both employees and the general public may lose respect and trust in the responsible organization.

What Are the Benefits of a Good Emergency Notification System?

There are a number of benefits to an effective crisis communication system that should be taken into consideration.

* The quicker notification takes effect, the less exposure to dangerous situations will occur. This is vital for the safety of employees and possibly the general public.
* When key personnel receive notification they are able to act upon it and begin implementing crisis management procedures. Depending upon the type of crisis, this type of fast implementation can allow for limitation of damage from such crises as chemical spills or fires.
* In the event of poor publicity, better notification means an increased chance of reversing public opinion and establishing benevolence.

This makes if very obvious that a good emergency notification system must be in place. The system must be solid and go to every extent to prevent communication break downs for the safety of the public, the reputation of the organization, and the continuance of business when possible.

A System Must Include Multiple Methods

When a breakdown is not acceptable, a system can not have one method of communication only. There must be secondary systems and backup plans in place to compliment the primary communication methods. The emergency notification system must be a complete system. Because it may require communicating with various people in differing circumstances, emergency notification systems should incorporation crisis communication technologies that will reach all of these people as quickly and effectively as possible.

This means that communication may be required to reach people that are sitting at a computer, those in front of a television, those driving down the road, and those in a noisy factory setting simultaneously. That is why a good emergency notification system in necessary. One method of communication is inadequate to reach such a multitude of people, so an entire system must be designed and implemented.

When you decide upon an emergency notification system you must ensure that it meets all of your needs. The crisis communication system must be evaluated to establish that it will sufficiently reach employees and public in every possible location. You must also take power failures and computer break downs into consideration. This will guarantee that you have taken every possible precaution in your emergency notification system.
